FAQ
Is strength training safe with osteoporosis?
Yes — with the right progression and supervision, it's one of the most protective things you can do. Bone adapts to load. The key is programming that respects your current bone density, which is exactly what a Doctor of Physical Therapy is trained to build.
Do I need a referral or a DEXA scan first?
No referral needed — Iowa has direct access to PT. A DEXA scan is helpful if you have one (bring the results), but we can start safely without it.
Can PT reverse bone loss?
Progressive resistance and impact training has been shown to slow bone loss and, in some cases, improve bone density — alongside reducing the fall risk that makes low bone density dangerous in the first place. We'll be honest about what's realistic for your situation.
