A common myth about squatting is that the toes have to face straight forward. In reality, most people will have their toes angled out a bit, as it allows the hips to open up a little more and get deeper into the squat.
The Truth
For a good, healthy squat, allow your toes to angle naturally. Do not force them too far out or too far in, as that can cause extra stress on the knees. Then actively grip the ground and produce torque with your feet to help stabilize. Doing this gives you a solid base to build off of with your squat.
