Sleep — Repair and Reboot

Getting enough quality sleep is vital to your overall health. Without it, you lose alertness and the ability to think clearly, and it can decrease the muscle-recovery benefits of your training. Below are ways to help you get good-quality sleep.

1. Make a Routine

A good bedtime routine can teach your body to relax and start getting sleepy at a certain time. It is best to consistently go to bed at the same time so you don't mess with your circadian rhythm.

2. Relax Before Bed

Stop working and avoid stressful situations before bed. The hour before bedtime should be for relaxing — read a book or listen to music. Avoid electronics, as the blue light they emit can keep you awake. Keeping the bedroom dark, quiet, and cool helps. Also avoid big meals before bed, as they can lead to heartburn.

3. Create Boundaries

Creating boundaries around your room and bed can lead to better sleep. Only using your bed for sleep — and not working in your room — creates a relaxing environment that's good for sleeping.

4. Get Outside

Spending time outside and exercising helps your sleep by supporting your circadian rhythm and burning energy. Getting sunlight has more benefits than just helping you sleep.
